Murphy's Law Revisited
Beware of thoughts like this: "Hmm, Jack hasn't been throwing up as much lately. Perhaps he's past the constant spit-up* stage."
* Spit-up sounds like such a banal term. Like "oh dear, grab that tiny tissue, the boy has a little spit resting on his lip." It's so much more than that. It's taking Spot Shot to the rug on a regular basis. It's having to wash every sleeper after one use. It's never carrying him without a receiving blanket. It's the smell... always, everywhere. And yes, we had it with both of our children. Aren't we lucky?

Oh, the spit up! Both my girls were spitters, and as you said, it really sounds so harmless but is, in fact, not.
I don't miss the smell. Nope. Not one bit.
One of my children did that too. All. The. Time.
