Just a thought.
If the landlady has the nerve to respond thus to our broken air conditioner: "It will be fixed when it's fixed" WE should be able to respond thus to our rent due tomorrow: "It will be paid when it's paid".

Actually, in many parts of the United States, you would have the option of withholding rent if the basic utilities of your apartment aren't working. I don't know what the situation in Canada is...but probably worth checking.

Yeah, I think adrift at sea's got the right idea - tell them they'll get the rent when the utilities you AGREED TO when you rented the place are working.
I agree with everyone. There is a Residential Tenancies Branch that deals with this kind of stuff. 945-2476 (It's in the book)
