from the 4 year-old

This might only be funny to those living in this house but I'm thinking some of you might be familiar with J-L's favourite names.

Today at supper:
Jack: Mom, did you know that Jordan has a dog?
ccap: Oh really?
J-L: Jacky, what's the dog's name?
Jack: It's NOT Chico or Chauncey.

And on the way home from soccer apparently he turned into a crotchety 80 year-old man.

"Grrr. I am SO cold and SO wet and SO tired."

At this time of year I feel lucky to live where I do. At the end of the driveway it starts with the chokecherry tree and it's bright/strong scented flowers. Next come 2 lilac trees with their sweet innocent flowers and scent. And just before the door are hoards of lily of the valley with their tiny feminine flowers and quiet, soft scent.
Although, living here also comes with a conundrum. I love to be barefoot and I HATE to have sticky skin. Well, the trees in our yard drip a lot of sticky substance this time of year. Frustrates me to go outside with no shoes on only to come in and head straight for the sink.

cute stuff from the 3 year-old

I'm sure you get a bit sick of it but some of this stuff is just too cute NOT to write down. And, hey, soon he'll be 4 and all grown up. :-)

We're grocery shopping today and he asks for those horse apples. It takes me awhile but eventually I figure it out and a smile crosses my face.

He means gala apples... He thinks they're called gallop apples... I think from now on they'll be horse apples to me too.

It's a delightful life.

J-L: Guys, tomorrow we get to go pick up Mom's new car!
Jack: Is it orange?!
ccap: No, sorry, Jacky, it's grey.
Jack: That's okay. I like grey sometimes.

good times

Funny, I don’t think I’m a fussy person when it comes to shopping for a car for myself. The first (and only) car I bought I test drove maybe 3 cars and knew which one I wanted and that was that. Our van? Spur of the moment decision. Saw it online, good price, test drive, purchased that same day. And yet, things don’t seem to be going the same with this car purchase. Apparently I’m fussier than I thought. Here’s a few things I don’t really want in my “new” car:

1. I don’t want to run a carfax and find out that the odometer has been tampered with. (Incidentally, we phoned the seller back, told him this and then saw it listed on kijiji again... at a HIGHER PRICE.)
2. I don’t want to hear the motor make almost as much noise as my current car.
3. I don’t want to feel dirty climbing into it or to feel like I’d be embarrassed giving anyone a ride in it. (I'm still shuddering at this one a little bit.)
4. I don’t want the brakes to grind. (Not to be stereotypical but we should have known when we discovered the 20-something year-old girl who was selling it was heading to Toronto to be the lead singer in a rock band.)
5. I don’t want the car to smell of vomit. (Jacky STILL talks about this one: Mommy, we can't buy this car. It stinks!)
6. I don’t want the plastic in front of the speedometer to be broken.
7. I don’t want to be told I can’t take it for a test drive. (Crazy thing was, they seemed shocked when we told them we were no longer interested.)
8. I don’t want to feel like if I’m in a car accident with a bicycle I’ll probably come out the loser.

Fussy, fussy, fussy.
